NSH Histotechnology Day Logo Help!

Here's some news from NSH about the brand spankin' new Histo Day - and it's promotion:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) announced the inaugural celebration of Annual Histotechnology Day on March 10, 2010. Histotechnology Day is being organized in order to aid in the public’s awareness of the discipline. Most would agree that the field is not well known among lay people. The society has been working to educate young people about histotechnology as a career option with the annual Career Day program. Histotechnology Day is another opportunity to increase public awareness and will also bring awareness to practitioners of other disciplines in healthcare.

NSH is creating a toolkit that will be provided to our members to aid them in planning their Histotechnology Day celebrations at their respective facilities. The toolkit will include a sample press release, a proclamation that may be signed by your community’s mayor or state governor, suggestions for publicizing the event, etc. We will explore the feasibility of getting President Obama to recognize Histotechnology Day.

What can you do to ensure Histotechnology Day’s success?

We need you as members to help us energize your laboratory and management to begin planning to recognize and celebrate Histotechnology Day. If we don’t make a big deal of Histotechnology Day there is little reason for others to notice us. Histotechnology Day is our opportunity to make a fuss over who we are and what we do to benefit mankind.
In preparation for this first event, we are soliciting designs for a logo that will be used for promotional items and for a Histotechnology Day t-shirt which will help to bring attention to our celebration. We have received a few entries from our State Organizational Partners and would like to ask you as members to join the contest. We hope that you and others in our lab will be interested in creating and submitting a design to help us make this first Histotechnology Day truly inspiring. Design submissions will be placed on line at the NSH website where members can see the creations that have been received.

This is our opportunity to bring recognition to our own profession and I hope that you will help us energize histotechs across the world for this event.

Deadlines for submission of Histotechnology Day logos is August 10, 2009. Designs are to be submitted electronically to Carrie Diamond at Carrie@nsh.org

We are excited about Histotechnology Day and hope that you will be too.

Best regards,
Kerry Crabb
President

An update on the VT licensure

Things are chugging along for the VT licensure for medical laboratory professionals - but we still need people's support. One thing that we could all to assist in this process would be to send in letters of endorsement for this bill. However, we know everyone is extremely busy, and are open to suggestions as to how we should handle this.
Do you think it would be best to send in personal letters of support, sign a form letter, or gather signatures for a petition-like form?
We could also post a form for everyone to fill out on the VT/NH homepage...

The options are endless, and we need your support. Any suggestions, comments - feel free to comment here, or to contact Jude Carpenter at jude.carpenter@vtmednet.org

Thanks!

VT/NH histo crew.

The real source of floaters...

We were sent this article on floaters which we felt was VERY interesting. The main claim was that they come from a linear stainer, and not waterbaths or other sources. If you are looking for some HT related reading, that puts a new spin on a common lab problem - check out the article.
